Mass Effect 2: Tali Cosplay Image References

Thanks for checking out my cosplay tutorial and progress blog - I will be updating this every few days with the progress I make on my many cosplays! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment on any post and I'll do my best to clarify.
Tali Mass Effect

Tali'Zorah was always a favored squadmate when I played the Mass Effect series. So, it seemed natural for her to be my first cosplay of the 2014 series. (Actually, I started this back in November of 2013.. shh!) Little did I know that it would be far more complicated than I anticipated. In all, I think this build took me 300-350 hours and around $400. Oof. If I had planned better in the beginning, and not had as many "one step forward, two steps back" moments, I think I could have skimmed off 100 hours and dollars.

Anyway - Tali's build varies slightly from the concept art to the in-game cinematics. I decided to work strictly from the game and set to work finding my reference photos. One thing I really like to do when hunting for images is create a board on my Pinterest. I know, I know, Pinterest is for bad crafts and cliche photographs of Helvetica on landscapes. BUT I like to use this method because when I'm out at the fabric store I can quick whip out my phone and look at any of my references instead of using a print out.

After a few days of obsessively staring at Tali photos... I broke up my costume into the following parts:
  • Helmet
  • Wrap + Hood
  • Back harness
  • Bodysuit
  • Greeves/Leg Armor
  • Feed
  • Armor Extras (Necklace, arm.. armor, belts)
Phew - looks like a lot! And it is, but totally do able. In the next post, I'll show you how I made my final bodysuit days before Dragon Con, and how to NOT make as many sewing and painting mistakes as I did!

Is anyone else planning a Tali Cosplay? What is your favorite Tali moment?
